Mixing Robotics and Outside Life

by Gabriella Tregembo

Members of the Foley Freeze are dedicated to the team to make engineers of the future, which means juggling busy schedules. Our students are heavily involved in many other after-school activities and sports, allowing them little time to complete everything. Although of tightly packed schedules, all the team members manage to be successful by working to the best ability and helping in every aspect possible.

Our team meets Monday-Friday at 6 PM, with a 5 PM homemade dinner from our amazing parents. Most after-school activities, such as basketball, bowling, band, and the school musical, are done around 5 pm, allowing an hour for downtime to eat and talk with friends. As we are Team 910, we meet until 9:10, although many mentors and students dedicate much more time to ensure everything on the schedule is complete. The dedication of our students is what helps our team to accomplish every mission, little or small. Our team also meets on Saturday to be as productive as possible. We start at 9 AM with breakfast, and most students stay until 4 PM, with the occasional few who stay past to get ahead.

“Being a part of this team has taught me time management,” said Linh Austin, a sophomore on media. “With school robotics and basketball, I have found a balance that allows me time [for it] all, along with some downtime.”

We appreciate the dedication and lengthy (but enjoyable!) and productive nights the mentors and students put into robotics. The commitment and obstacles we have accomplished have made this team a family!
