The competition season has begun, even if it was a less auspicious start than expected.

The Foley Freeze competed at the Macomb Community College District Competition during the opening week of Infinite Recharge last weekend. Things didn’t go as well as the team had hoped, but team members gained lots of useful insight.

The highlight of the Macomb competition for the Foley Freeze was winning the Excellence in Engineering Award! This award celebrates elegant and advantageous machine features. The CAD team described features to judges about our robot’s conception, design, assembly, and deployment as part of the competition for the award..

The game, which has a Star Wars theme, is fun, engaging, and the competition was a great experience to see how other teams approach the game’s challenges from different angles. The team is going to take advantage of the next several weeks leading up to our next competition to make improvements to the robot.

The next competition is the Buckeye Regional is March 27-28 in Cleveland, Ohio. A win in Cleveland would qualify the team for an appearance in the World Championships, where the Foley Freeze has appeared 9 times in it’s career.

From the team…
Our final record at the MCC District Competition was 5-7, which was well under our expected outcome. Since this was a Week 1 Competition and early in the season, we have plenty of time to assess and fix some of the flaws we noticed in our robot. This event was an opportunity for us to see how our robot would look in a field against other teams, and to analyze the best way to perfect the machine. We are going to take advantage of the next several weeks leading up to our next competition to make improvements to our robot.

We are eager to showcase our progress and changes at the Buckeye Regional.
